With the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 hitting UK retailers today, September 25, the Korean manufacturer has announced that a flexible display hosting version of the phone will be launched next month.

The first major manufacturer to announce concrete plans to launch a flexible display hosting handsets, Samsung has revealed that the modified Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will be launched in its native South Korea in a matter of weeks.

"We plan to introduce a smartphone with a curved display in South Korea in October," D.J. Lee, Samsung's Mobile Business head of Strategic Marketing announced today at a launch event for the Note 3 in Seoul.

Although the flexible display Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will feature a bendable screen, the phone itself will be rigid, with the new display panel allowing the phone to stand up to knocks, drops and bumps better than its traditional counterpart.

“As plastic liquid crystal displays are strong enough to neither shatter even when dropped on the ground nor need frames, it is possible to produce devices with unique designs,” Park Sang-jin, Samsung’s President of SDI said suggesting further flexible phones could land in the future.

Expected to feature the same spec as the standard Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the new flexible display option has yet to be confirmed for release beyond South Korea.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is the latest stylus hosting ‘phablet’ device from the Korean manufacturer and  will sit between the flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 and dedicated Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. It features a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display alongside a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM and a 3200mAh Lithium-Ion battery.

With the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 features list seeing a 13-megapixel camera line up on the phone’s rear, a secondary 2-megapixel snapper resides on the device’s fore.
