A Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite is reportedly in the works, with the stripped back phablet said to be heading for an MWC 2014 unveiling.

With the next instalment of Mobile World Congress set to be held between February 24 and 27 2014, serial Samsung-based tipster SamMobile has claimed that a cut-priced, reduced-spec take on the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is on the cards.

Citing an unnamed insider with the Korean manufacturer, the latest reports have claimed that an MWC 2014 unveiling  will be followed by a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite release date “sometime in February or March.”

Although finalised specs for the mooted handset have yet to be unveiled, it has been suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite will see a more cost-effective set of innards include a lower resolution display and an 8-megapixel camera.

Continuing Samsung’s intent to offer a handset at every scree size and price point, a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite would go head-to-head with the likes of the Huawei Ascend Mate and the upcoming Nokia Lumia 1320.

Currently the market leading phablet, the IFA 2013 unveiled Samsung Galaxy Note 3 sports a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor alongside a 5.7-inch, 1080p Full HD Super AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel primary snapper.

With the standard Note 3 boasting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, given the recently launched Android 4.4 KitKat OS, it is currently unclear which version of Google’s operating system the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite will run from launch.

Last week two new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 colours were introduced, with Red and Rose Gold iterations made available for certain markets.
