Samsung Galaxy K Zoom announced as Galaxy S5 variant

Samsung has officially launched the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom, a camera-centric variation on the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Following several leaks, the Galaxy K Zoom is finally official and looks a lot more like a smartphone than the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom.

It features a 20.7-megapixel rear camera with 10x optical zoom and optical image stabilisation paired with a 4.8-inch 720p HD display.

“We know that our customers al have different demands and needs, and the Galaxy K Zoom is the latest example of our on-going commitment to ensuring that we have something for everyone,” said Simon Stanford, VP of IT And Mobile at Samsung UK and Ireland. “What most of our customers od have in common though is a desire for a mobile device that has a great camera.”

“The Galaxy K Zoom has a range of features that mean they can effortlessly take and share those photos and with the convenience of a Galaxy smartphone.”

Samsung Galaxy K Zoom Features
The Galaxy K Zoom’s main focus is its rear camera, which comes with a 20.7-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 10x optical zoom and optical image stabilisation (OIS). The 24-240mm lens offers an aperture of f3.1 – 6.3 and you’ll also be able to make use of what Samsung calls an auto focus assist LED.

It offers an ISO range of 100 – 3200 and is capable of continuous shooting speeds up to 3fps. There’s also a Xenon flash and you can experiment with Expert Mode and My Mode for shooting customisation.

You can also record full 1920x1080p HD video at 60fps, but you won’t be able to shoot 4K video content like you can with the flagship Samsung Galaxy S5 or with rivals like the Sony Xperia Z2.

This main rear camera is partnered with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling.

Of course, the Galaxy K Zoom is still a smartphone at heart, so you’ll get a 4.8-inch 1280 x 720p HD Super AMOLED screen running Android 4.4 KitKat on a hexa-core processor made up of 1.3GHz quad-core CPU and 1.7GHz dual-core processor.

The Galaxy K Zoom has 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage complemented by microSD card support up to 32GB with micro SDHC and 64GB with micro SDXC.

It runs on a 2430mAh battery and offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 BLE, NFC and 4G LTE connectivity.

Samsung Galaxy K Zoom Release Date and Price

We actually know very little about the release and pricing of the Galaxy K Zoom. All Samsung has said so far is that “UK availability of the Galaxy K Zoom will be announced in due course.”
