The Samsung Galaxy Gear was officially unveiled at IFA 2013 earlier this week, and to bring you closer to the action we’ve produced our own hands-on Samsung Galaxy Gear video.

Giving you a better idea of exactly what to expect from the Samsung smartwatch, our Samsung Galaxy Gear video, available below, highlights how the unit’s touchscreen display works alongside the Android innards to offer a wrist mounted companion to your smartphone.

Boasting a 1.63-inch touchscreen display with a modest 320 x 320 pixel resolution, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch is a step up on the rival Sony Smartwatch 2 in terms of visuals, with the Japanese manufacturer’s timepiece only offering a 220 x 276p resolution.

Alongside its 277 pixels-per-inch Super AMOLED display, the Samsung Galaxy Gear specs sheet sees an 800MHz processor line up alongside 4GB of internal storage. Thanks to the watch’s Android innards, it can be filled with specially developed apps.

Syncing with your smartphone via low energy Bluetooth 4.0, the Galaxy Gear adds an accelerometer and gyroscope for fitness tracking functions while an integrated speaker is also squeezed into the 74g body.

Available in six colours - Jet Black, Mocha Gray, Rose Gold, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Beige, and Lime Green – the Samsung Galaxy Gear features a 1.9-megapixel camera built into its strap.

A Samsung Galaxy Gear release date has been pencilled in for September 25 while the smartwatch’s price is expected to be around the £300 mark.
