The Samsung Galaxy Gear price has been confirmed, with the Samsung smartwatch to set UK consumers back a lofty £299.

Officially unveiled as part of Samsung’s Mobile Unpacked event at IFA 2013 last week, the Samsung Galaxy Gear is a smartphone syncing timepiece running Google’s Android OS.

Letting you receive call and messaging notifications direct to your wrist, Samsung Galaxy Gear pre-orders have already opened, with the South Korean manufacturer now confirming that the Sony Smartwatch 2 rival will cost a premium £299 in the UK.

While the UK Samsung Galaxy Gear price had been errant from the device’s unveiling, Samsung had previously confirmed that the smartwatch will cost $299 (£190) the US. This £110 price difference is sure to deter many Brits from picking up the techy timepiece.

With the Samsung Galaxy Gear Features list seeing a 1.9-megapixel camera incorporated within the device’s strap alongside integrated stereo speakers, the Gear adds a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display into the mix with a somewhat basic 320 x 320 pixel resolution.

Currently compatible only with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and 2014 edition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Samsung Galaxy Gear will be given syncing options with both the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy S3 in the near future.

With the £299 Samsung Galaxy Gear price confirmed alongside a September 25 Samsung Galaxy Gear release date, those looking to snap up the watch alongside the Note 3 will be forced to fork out an eye watering £848.

Believe it or not, this lofty price tag actual marks a £100 saving on the dual purchase, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 price having been confirmed as £649 as the stylus hosting phablet is also made available for pre-order.
