Samsung is apparently developing a premium line of smartphones with flexible displays and metal design.
Expected to enter production early next year, the Galaxy F range will enhance the current plastic-bodied Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note smartphone range and introduce unbreakable flexible screens.
According to the Japanese blog, rbmen, the first of the Galaxy F range devices will come to market in March 2014.
Alongside flexible screen and superior metal bodies, Samsung will also use 5-inch displays for the Galaxy F smartphones and pack optical image stabilisation in the rear cameras.
Predicted to still run Android Jelly Bean despite the 2014 launch, there should be Exynos processors on board as well.
Samsung has already hinted that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will pack a metal body, replacing the plastic casing of the Galaxy S4 that Samsung has been so heavily criticised for.
The Galaxy F smartphones will purportedly act as the premium range to the current smartphone lineup, but we dread to think how much the devices will actually retail for seeing as already SIM-free retail price for the Galaxy S4 is around £630 and £649 for the Galaxy Note 3.
Samsung has already confirmed that it will be launching a limited edition Galaxy Note 3 with a flexible screen next month, potentially named the Galaxy Note 3 Active with waterproof and dustproof qualities too.
There are already curved display TVs on the market, but the technology to create completely flexible smartphone is still in development.
Although it is possible to make displays completely flexible, other components like batteries, chips and logic boards haven’t been developed with the same technology as yet.
This means that although it might be interesting and exciting to own a twisting, bending smartphone, the real benefit for a flexible display is its durability.
