The first live photos of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha have leaked online, revealing it’s not going to be quite what we expected.

Samsung’s rumoured Galaxy Alpha is expected to the start of a new line of premium smartphones, similar to that done with the company’s tablet range with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S and Galaxy Tab Pro.

Notoriously reliable Sammobile has managed to obtain some live images of the Galaxy Alpha, showing its premium finishes and how it compares to the flagship Samsung Galaxy S5.

Previous rumours suggested that the Galaxy Alpha would feature a premium metal construction, but it looks like Samsung has opted to use aluminium for the side panels of the Galaxy Alpha. Instead of using metal all over, the Alpha has the same leather-effect perforated rear back panel as the Galaxy S5.

According to new information accompanying the photographs, the Galaxy Alpha will have the same display as the Samsung Galaxy S3. Whether that means resolution, panel type or size wasn’t clear, but previous rumours suggested it would come with a 4.7-inch display, which is actually smaller than the 4.8-inch S3.

The Galaxy Alpha should come with 32GB of internal storage as standard, but have no microSD card support, similar to the iPhone models.

From the sounds of that then, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha won’t be a premium version of the Galaxy S5, but lie somewhere between it and the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini released earlier this year.

Currently, there’s very limited information on the Galaxy Alpha, but hopefully we could see it unveiled at IFA in September alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
