Samsung Galaxy A9 leaks as 5.5-inch mid-ranger

Samsung’s known for its incessant product release cycle, so it’s no surprise that manufacturer is already cooking up a new device.

New rumours suggest that Samsung is going to release a new smartphone, destined for the mid-range A-series.

According to prolific – and oft reliable – leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (a.k.a OnLeaks), the device in question is the Samsung Galaxy A9.

Hemmerstoffer cites an AnTuTu benchmark readout that lists specifications for a device with the model number ‘SM-A9000’.

The handset appears to feature a 5.5-inch display with a Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 620, a mid-range chip with the model number ‘MSM8976’, powers the handset, while an Adreno 510 GPU handles graphics.

The benchmarked device also makes use of 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage.

Specific camera details aren’t listed unfortunately, although the leak does reveal that the device will have two image sensors of unknown resolution.

The final detail is that the SM-A9000 is running Google’s Android 5.1.1 Lollipop – that’s the previous version of Android that came before the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Unfortunately, there’s no way of us verifying this information just yet, as Samsung likes to keep handsets hushed up ahead of launch.

Whatever the case, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a new mid-ranger for Samsung in the near future.
