Samsung has admitted to a manufacturing fault on the Galaxy S7 Active handset, which caused the supposedly water resistant handset to fail multiple dunk tests.
Earlier this month, Consumer Reports criticised the rugged device for failing to live up to claims it could survive in 5ft of water for 30 minutes. At the time Samsung claimed it was an isolated incident.
Now the firm has changed its tune telling claiming it has discovered a production line flaw that caused the fault.
In a statement, a Samsung representative told CR: “We found a problem in the production line that we were able to correct.”

Samsung did not elaborate on the details, but said new S7 Active phones are now leaving the factory sans a waterproofing problem.
However, the company has not pulled existing models from the shelves and won’t be offering replacements unless buyers report a problem.
The spokesperson, Phil Berne, said the issue “will affect a very, very small number of devices."
He added: “We don’t want people to think there’s the necessity of returning their phone.”
The problems with the Galaxy S7 Active are rather ironic, given the device is supposed to be suited to a more active lifestyle.
The normal versions of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, which boast the same IP68 water resistance rating, but have experienced no such issues.
