Samsung drops prices of 4K TVs

Samsung has dropped the price of its 4K TV offering, reducing the cost of its 65-inch model by £1000.

Of course, the prices are still skyhigh for these 4K TVs, but consumers have to pay premiums for Ultra HD resolution displays.

The 55-inch Samsung UE55F9000 was originally £3,999, but is now £3,299. This means consumers will save £700 or 17.5 per cent on the RRP for the TV.

However, the 65-inch UE65F9000 has had £1000 slashed from its RRP of £5,999, meaning 4K enthusiasts can bag the TV for a semi-bargain price of £4,999.

Part of the ongoing 4K price wars, Sony’s price cuts come a week after LG and Sony lowered the cost of their own Ultra HD TV models.

Unlike Samsung, the Sony and LG price cuts haven’t been reflected yet in the UK prices for its 4K TVs. In the US, LG is offering a hefty discount on its 55- and 65-inch 4K TV models, shortly followed by Sony. The Japanese electronics manufacturer cut between $1,500 (£958) and $2,000 (£1277) from the RRPs of its own 65- and 55-inch 4K models.

This was all kicked off by Samsung itself lowering the price of its curved OLED TV by a whopping $6,000 (£3829) to $9,000 (£5747).

Samsung has insisted that its new price cuts aren’t due to competition on the 4K TV market from rivals, but rather that it has improved manufacturing yields to reduce panel construction costs.
