Despite today’s unveiling of the 12.2-inch Samsung Galaxy NotePRO and Samsung Galaxy TabPRO tablets at CES 2014, the Korean manufacturer has suggested that it does not expect the new oversized form factor to dominate.
With 10-inch models having been the largest tablet form factor offered by many manufacturers to date, Samsung has taken things to a higher level, hoping that oversized 12.2-inch models will help entice a new breed of business-minded users.
However, despite pushing the envelope with a pair of 12.2-inch tablets, Samsung has told TrustedReviews that it does not expect a mass exodus to the larger tablet forms.
He added: “7-inch and 10-inch tablets pretty much split sales 50/50 – in the US at least. 12-inch will offer something new to a specific part of the market.”
With Samsung well publicised to be targeting dramatic growth in the tablet market during 2014, the company has started the year on aggressive form, suggesting it plans to dictate how the tablet scene evolves.
“At Samsung we intend to set the new rules for tablet this year,” Min Cho Samsung’s Director of Product Marketing told us. Suggesting the move to a 12.2-inch form factor has been based largely on consumer requests he added: “We package those consumer insights into a unit that best benefits our end users.”
Set to hit retailers later this quarter, the Samsung Galaxy NotePRO and Samsung Galaxy TabPRO both play host to 12.2-inch displays with stunning 2560 x 1600 pixel resolutions.
With quad-core CPUs, 3GB of RAM and a 9500mAh Lithium-Ion battery apiece, both new tablets play host to Android 4.4 KitKat, overlaid with the all new, and highly immersive Magazine UX.
