Samsung defends Galaxy Tab S overheating concerns

Samsung has hit out at reports that the new, 8.4-inch Galaxy Tab S is suffering from overheating issues, instead claiming the tablet has a problem with its rear, plastic casing.

Following the tablet’s official release earlier this month, a number of early adopters have reported overheating problems, with one user go so far as to share images of his Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 with a warped back reportedly caused by heating issues.

Now, however, the Korean manufacturer has blamed a ‘limited number’ of faulty covers for the issue, not overheating woes.

“Contrary to certain media reports, the slight disfiguration that has formed on the rear surface of the Galaxy Tab S has been attributed to a limited number of defective back covers, which has no relation to the overheating of the application processor or the material used for the back cover,” and official Samsung spokesperson said.

Speaking with AndroidCentral they added: “We would like to assure our customers that we have already resolved the issue. We ask affected customers to please contact their nearest Samsung Electronics customer service centre.”

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4, which will set wannabe owners back £319, is the company’s latest challenger to the iPad mini.

Featuring an 8.4-inch, 2560 x 1600p Super AMOLED display, the Tab S pairs simply stunning visuals with an Exynos 5 Octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
