Samsung Chromebook 2 launched with fake leather finish

Samsung has officially launched the Samsung Chromebook 2, complete with the fake leather finish it suddenly seems to be rather fond of.

The Chromebook 2 has been kitted out with the faux leather finish seen on the back of Samsung Galaxy devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Aside from the leather finish though, Samsung has improved the performance and battery life on its Chromebook 2, which will come in two sizes – 11.6- and 13.3-inches.

“Since we introduced our first Chromebook in 2011, Samsung has been committed to continually developing our designs and features to meet our users’ ever-changing needs, while staying true to the core Chromebook attributes of simplicity, speed and security,” said Mike Abary, Senior VP of consumer IT product marketing at Samsung America.

Samsung Chromebook 2 Features
The Samsung Chromebook 2 11.6-inch model comes with an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768p HD display and runs on a 1.9GHz Samsung Exynos 5 octa-core processor with 4GB of RAM.

It weighs 1.1kg, will come in Jet Black or Classic White and offer an 8 hour battery life.

The Chromebook 2 13.3 model has a 13.3-inch full 1920 x 1080p HD display running on the same Exynos 5 processor and 4GB of RAM.

It has a slightly longer 8.5 hour battery life, but weighs a little more at 1.4kg and only comes in Luminous Titan Grey.

Both models offer a 720p HD webcam, an HDMI, single USB 3.0 and single USB 2.0 ports and a microSD multimedia card reader. The Chromebook 2 will of course run on the Google Chrome OS.

Samsung Chromebook 2 Release Date and Price
Both models of the Samsung Chromebook 2 will be available from April, with the 11.6-inch model is priced at $319.99 (£192) and the 13.3-inch model is $399.99 (£239.86).
