Samsung just quit the UK camera business

The advent of smartphone photography has been tough to chew for camera manufacturers, including Samsung.

Samsung has announced the discontinuation of its operations in the UK camera market.

The South Korean technology giant is now set to abandon sales of digital cameras, camcorders, and camera accessories in Britain.

The company has released the following statement on the matter:

In the UK, we have seen a gradual and sustained decline in demand for standalone digital cameras and camcorders and related accessories.”

The statement continues: “For this reason, we have taken the decision to phase out the sales and marketing of these products.”

While there’s no evidence Samsung plans to shutter camera operations in other regions, some rumours suggest the business may be closed down in Australia and select European locations.

Rumours regarding the closure of Samsung’s camera business began circulating in mid-September this year.

Speaking at the time however, Samsung snubbed out the rumours, dismissing the suggestion that it planned to abandon operations.
