Samsung has dropped the biggest hint yet (as if any were needed) that the device set to launch at its August 29 Unpacked show will be the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The company has released a teaser video featuring glimpses of the mysterious new device - as well as German director Wim Wenders.
"When magical moments come alive," opens the video, "Everything becomes an inspiration." Too enigmatic for you? How about the following shot of a Samsung stylus being removed from a device?
Yep, this is the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 alright. We’ve actually had an increasingly solid idea that the device was set for release soon.
Earlier in the month, Samsung sent out invites to one of its Unpacked launch events featuring a magic wand shaped like a stylus. The 10 million-selling Galaxy Note brought stylus functionality to a smartphone/tablet hybrid form factor.
Following this hint, it appeared as if Samsung itself had leaked the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, with an image of a large-screened handset cropping up on Samsung Pakistan’s Facebook page. Just before it was removed it bore the phrase “Picture perfect view made even more perfect with Samsung Galaxy Note.”
And now this video, which rather unexpectedly features acclaimed film director Wim Wenders (he of Paris, Texas and Buena Vista Social Club fame). Mr Wenders himself drops the final hint as to this device’s identity with his voice-over: “All the things you can do in the blink of an eye with such a small and light thing.”
A “small and light” device that features a stylus? Come on Samsung, you can at least try to preserve some of the mystery for us.
