Just when you'd run out of gift ideas...
‘Tis the season to buy electronic picture frames and Samsung has just bulked up your options…
For those still looking for a last minute gift for Dad, Grandpa Joe or Uncle Ronald here’s an idea: the Samsung ‘SPF-83V’.
This relatively large 8in 800 x 600 native resolution digiframe should do the trick with a proportionately sharp 500:1 contrast ratio and 200 nits of screen brightness. Its killer feature is WiFi which Sammy has had the good sense to link in with Microsoft’s Windows Live Spaces for easy photo sharing (be careful which folders you demonstrate this with to aforementioned relatives) and RSS feeds.
64MB of storage is also available onboard for those looking to transfer photos permanently – and with automated file resizing this should be good for a few hundred shots.
Chirping up on the SPF-83V was Christopher Franey, VP of Commercial Sales and Marketing, who twittered “Our latest digital photo frames, based on cutting-edge technology from the Microsoft Research labs, are easy to use and are one of the few offerings in the marketplace that offer a ‘network’ approach to digital photo sharing. This is a great example of our ongoing collaboration with Microsoft, and we are confident that the resulting product will be received extremely well.”
Cap-tipping aside, with the mass of me-too frames out there he may just be right.
Samsung neglected to inform us of a price, but the SPF-83V has shown up on Amazon US for just $229.99 (approx £110) which is reasonable considering its features and proportions. Arrival is inconveniently listed as ‘after December 24′ but given its obvious appeal a receipt may well sate the lucky receiver until the post sorts itself out some time in May…
