Fitness apps have walked hand-in-hand with music services ever since Nike first offered users access to their iTunes playlists on the first iPhones.

Now two of the most popular apps in each sector have joined forces in order to bring exercise and music under the same umbrella.

Thanks to an iOS app update released on Thursday, Runkeeper app users can now access their Spotify playlists directly from the fitness tracker app.

The integration for Spotify Premium subscribers can be enabled by connecting the two services in the ‘Apps, Services & Devices’ section of the Settings tab.

Playlists will then appear within the music section of the app, enabling users to enjoy both services without switching between apps while out on a long run. Spotify is also serving up custom-built workout playlists users can select within the Runkeeper app.

On its blog (via Engadget), Runkeeper says the integration answers its most frequently requested feature over the past few years.

Spotify has been racking up the partnerships this week with Misfit announcing its Flash tracker will become a remote control for Spotify playlists.

Sony also announced it would be shuttering its Music Unlimited service in favour of a Spotify app on its PlayStation 4 consoles.
