Canon has unveiled the follow up to the PowerShot D10 in the “robust and sporty body” of the PowerShot D20.

Like the D10, the PowerShot D20 is aimed at the outdoor sports market and as such is waterproof down to 10m, shockproof from drops of 1.5m, freezeproof down to -10ºc and has been environmentally sealed against sand and dust.

Complimenting these credentials is the Active Display technology which allows you to control some of the camera functions by tapping the camera body, a great feature if you are wearing gloves while out and about.

Looking away from the rugged specifications for a minute, the PowerShot D20 features a 28mm wide-angle lens with a 5x optical zoom, Intelligent Image Stabilisation, a 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 4 processor.

The camera will feature an underwater marco mode which combines with Quick AF to improve shooting while swimming or scuba diving. The in-built GPS Logger feature will let you tag images with location data or let you track your movements with the Map Utility.

There is also the ability to shoot Full HD 1080p video and an HDMI port will let you output your video direct to a large screen TV, to share with family or friends.

The PowerShot D20 will be available in blue, yellow and silver this May and will cost £349.
