Roku 3 launches in the UK, other boxes given updates
Roku has given its line of Roku streaming players a refresh and finally bringing the Roku 3 to the UK, Canada and Ireland.
There are now three devices available in the Roku streaming box range, with the Roku 1 as the basic option, the Roku 2 enters as the mid-range option with dual-band Wi-Fi and the Roku 3 introducing an Ethernet and USB port.
“These new players bring useful improvements at existing prices – just in time for the holidays,” said Jim Funk, SVP of product management at Roku.
Roku 3 Features
Originally launched in the US in March, the Roku 3 is now available in the UK, offering TV and movie streaming via the Roku Channel Store.
With other 450 channels available to UK viewers, including Netflix, Vevo and BBC iPlayer, the Roku boxes add Smart TV functionality to the average TV set. Setting it apart from the Roku 1 and Roku 2, the Roku 3 has a Ethernet and USB port.
The Roku 3 has an enhanced remote with a built-in headphone jack and introduces motion control for gaming on the set-top box.
All three Roku boxes stream Full 1080p HD video, but there are distinct differences between the three models.
The Roku 1, as the basic entry-level model, lacks the dual-band Wi-Fi and remote with headphone jack of the Roku 2.
Roku 3 Release Date and Price
The Roku 3 is available now for £99.99, while the Roku 1 and 2 can be pre-ordered now for delivery early October. The Roku 1 will be priced at £59.99 and the Roku 2 is £79.99.
