Rockstar warns of GTA 5 beta scams

Rockstar Games has issued a statement warning gamers not to be taken in by sites claiming to offer beta access to the forthcoming next-gen re-release of GTA 5.

The phenomenally successful title will be launched on PS4 and Xbox One on November 18, while a PC version will finally be be out in January next year.

However, it appears some fakers are looking to lure excited gamers, who can’t wait to get in on the action, by offering a non-existent beta scheme.

In its statement on Monday, Rockstar said any company offering access to the game is likely phishing for users payment details.

“Please note: There is no pre-release ‘beta’ test for Grand Theft Auto V. If you see ads or solicitations to join a beta program, beware as this is likely some type of online phishing scam.”

Rockstar dealt with a similar issue in the run up to the initial release of GTA 5 in 2013, which also had no beta version. Gamers can pre-order the title and will receive $1m in in-game cash for the privilege.

Will you be snapping up GTA on the next-gen platforms when it launches next month? Or are you still enjoying the game, and its multi-player expansion, on the Xbox 360 or PS4?
