Ricoh Imaging has announced a pair of rugged cameras designed for underwater and cold weather use.
The new WG-30 and WG-30W are waterproof to depths of 12 meters, making them perfect for swimming, snorkelling or shallow scuba diving.
The 16-megapixel pair, which shoot video at Full HD 1080p, can also withstand low temperatures and are freeze proof to -10 degrees Celsius.
For those photographers operating in outdoor environments, Ricoh says the cameras will be shockproof against falls from 1.5 meters.
The company wrote in its press release: “Thanks to the combination of a state-of-the-art, back-illuminated CMOS image sensor and a newly designed imaging engine, these new members of the WG-series promise brilliant, low-noise images, even when the user takes pictures of poorly illuminated scenes – like nightscapes and indoor sports events — using a top sensitivity of ISO 6400. The triple anti-shake protection also prevents blurred images, while six macro lights assist close-up shooting, with a Self-Portrait Assist mode.”
The company also boasts of high speed face detection, able to capture and focus on up to 32 faces in 0.03 seconds. There’s a choice of 12 digital filters and auto selection of 16 scene modes.
The Ricoh WG-30 will be available in early November for £229, while the Wi-Fi enabled model doesn’t arrive until early January at a cost of £259.
