Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps trademark spotted

Capcom has trademarked Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps in Europe and Japan, which could mean a new game announcement soon.

The Umbrella Corps trademark originally surfaced on the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) as was listed only as “Umbrella Corps”.

That might indicate that it might not be part of the core Resident Evil series, perhaps existing as another spin-off branch.

But, since then, the game has appeared on the Japanese Patent and Trademark Office (courtesy of DualShockers) and is listed as Biohazard Umbrella Corps.

Unlike the OHIM listing, the Japanese trademark is linked to the Resident Evil (Biohazard) brand.

Capcom hasn’t yet officially announced or even teased a brand new Umbrella Corps game, so it’s unclear as to what form it will take at this stage.

The last Umbrella game was the Wii lightgun title Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, which was later released on PS3.

It is possible that an upcoming Umbrella Corps game could follow a similar vein to the episode Resident Evil Revelation 2 release.

Perhaps Capcom will reveal something next week at GamesCom 2015 – we’ll just have to wait and see.
