Report: iPhone 6S Force Touch display shipments ‘ramping up’

The iPhone 6S is rumoured for a September launch, so it’s no surprise that production of the handset is in full swing.

That’s according to a new report that claims Apple’s suppliers are ramping up shipments of the handset’s display.

What’s particularly interesting is the report, which comes courtesy of Digitimes, claims the supply chain is currently mass-producing Force Touch displays.

Force Touch is Apple’s pressure-sensitive touch technology that’s already featured on the Apple Watch and the 2015 MacBook.

It’s been widely rumoured to appear on the iPhone 6S, and this could be further evidence of the theory.

The supply chains started shipping Force Touch modules in small amounts for the new iPhone in June, and began ramping up the shipments in July,” reads the report.

The sources cited also reportedly suggested shipments were expected to reach 36-40 million in Q3 and 50 million in Q4.

According to the article, iPhone shipments in 2015 are estimated to reach 230 million total.

The report also points to the fact that display firm TPK recently noted it would be mass producing pressure-sensitive displays in July – a customer wasn’t specified at the time.

However, it projected a 50 per cent increase in quarter-on-quarter revenue for Q3.

It should be noted that we can’t actually verify any of the information in the Digitimes report, so take these claims with a pinch of salt.
