Report: HTC One A9 is the launch name of the Aero

HTC’s mysterious, but oft-rumoured, ‘Aero’ device has been peddled under many names, but what will it be called at launch?

According to a new report, the full, final, official, confirmed, absolute name of the upcoming smartphone is ‘HTC One A9’.

An A-series smartphone range is an entirely new branding for HTC, although it does strike a very similar figure to the current flagship ‘HTC One M-’ line-up.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard talk of an ‘A9’, mind. Previously, it was reported that the phone would be called HTC A9.

However, it now appears that HTC isn’t ready to drop the ‘One’ moniker just yet, according to a claim by prolific rumour-spinner Evleaks:

It’s been known for a while that HTC has been working on a new flagship smartphone.

Earlier this year, Cher Wang, the company’s CEO, claimed HTC hoped to launch a ‘hero’ handset this year, following on from the HTC One M9.

Previous leaks suggest that the phone will be powered by a MediaTek Helio X20 chipset. That’s the one with ten processor cores. Seriously.

Also tipped to be on the cards is a 1,440 x 2,560 pixel resolution display, 4GB of RAM, and a rear camera that supports RAW photography.

It’s been a tough year for HTC, mainly highlighted to tepid reception of the HTC One M9 and poor quarterly financial results.

As such, all eyes are on HTC to pull out a real winner with the HTC One A9 – if that is its real name.

Nevertheless, the handset will be facing stiff competition from the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, the formidable LG G4, and Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6S.

Do you think a ‘hero’ flagship is enough to lift HTC from the gadget quagmire? Let us know in the comments.
