Apple is reportedly preparing to take a leaf out of Microsoft’s book by finally bringing split-screen application support for iPad within iOS 9.
The Surface Pro-like multi-tasking feature for tablets will be unveiled using the current generation tablets, 9to5Mac reports, and could be shown off as soon as WWDC 2015 next month.
The company apparently developed the feature for the larger 12-inch iPad Pro tablets, which have been the subject of perennial speculation in recent months. The new UI tool may still be kept back for those larger slates, sources claim.
Split-screen multi-tasking isn’t the only oft-requested feature coming to iOS 9, the report says. Apple may also bring multi-user account support for its range of tablets.
This would be a boon for families, business or educational institutions who offer shared access to the iPad.

If tradition holds, iOS 9 will be previewed during the annual WWDC conference on June 8, where Apple is also expected to announce its progress with the HomeKit software.
Reports this week also suggested Apple will switch the default font to the San Francisco typeface developed for the Apple Watch, while public transit directions are also set to be integrated within Apple Maps.
