Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5 coming to next-gen consoles, claims analyst

Take Two and Rockstar Games should announce the next Red Dead Redemption and a next-gen version of GTA 5 within the year.

According to Colin Sebastian, an analyst at Baird Equity Research, GTA 5 for PC, Xbox One and PS4 as well as a Red Dead Redemption sequel are a matter of when, not if.

Sebastian believes that both could be announced within this year, which will be of great interest to those who have already signed the GTA 5 PC petition.

“Take Two continues to produce some of the highest-quality console and PC games, which we believe should transition well on next-gen platforms,” said Sebastian in the 2014 Video Game Industry Predictions and Q4 Results Preview.

“We expect product announcements over the next year such as extending GTA V to other platforms (e.g. PCs, next-gen consoles), the next Red Dead, etc., to help improve revenue and earnings visibility. In addition, the company has significant potential to grow digital/online revenues, which should help improve gross margins and add visibility to growth.”

Although Rockstar Games has denied a PC version of GTA 5 is in the works, recent Amazon listings have suggested an announcement is imminent.

“We expect PC version of GTA V in 2014. Recently, Amazon.com posted a product listing for a PC-version of the company’s blockbuster franchise Grand Theft Auto V(GTA).”

For fans of Red Dead Redemption, there may well be a next-gen announcement this year.

Back in 2012, Rockstar admitted it hasn’t finished with the Red Dead franchise saying: “We don’t always rush to make sequels but that does not mean that we won’t get back to them eventually. Stay tuned for further announcements about the future of the Red Dead series.”

Rockstar also said in October last year it has been working on “the next version of a famous IP” since June 2010, along with ten other next gen games. As Red Dead Redemption was released in May 2010, it would make sense for the next Red Dead to be in development from June 2010.

“We also believe the next Red Dead game is in the works potentially for a 2014 launch”, said Sebastian.

Previous rumours have suggested the next Red Dead game will be called Red Dead Rebellion.

I doubt there would be a next red dead game released THIS year, most likely one or two years from now. Rockstar never announces a game the same year it is released.

Really? Then why have they not announced GTA5 for PC when rumours are it will be released within 6 weeks??!!
The thing is that with the massive line up of next gen games on its way, marketing is very NB and so when you announce it could play a big role....

Never trust a Wall Street analyst. They are not in business to help you. They are in business to take your money. Thank You, and have a nice day.

That PC petition is a joke. A lot of gamers don't realize the time and effort that goes into making a game. Rockstar has great games because they believe in quality, instead of quantity. It's been proven time and time again in anything. Movies, games, etc. that are rushed to get out, usually suck.I personally like them because of the mature rating(I'm 33).

I'm sorry, Sam, but are you an idiot? You put John in the picture when he CLEARLY died in the first one. This article is misleading and filled with nothing, but speculations. Rockstar will probably make a RDR 2 along with GTA 6, but after GTA 5 the bar has been set to a whole different level. RDR 2 probably won't come out til winter of 2015. I, personally wish they would make another Manhunt. There are going to be some awesome games coming out, like Mafia 3.

Dude, you're the idiot. I don't know if you know but John Marsten is the main character of RDR (he's even on the cover) so why wouldn't they? Anyone who has only heard of the game will probably associate his face with it. Also everyone might not know that tidbit yet. Some people could still be working through the story as we speak. So next time, maybe put a spoiler alert or something.

That's totally different! GTA V is already out. They are just rooting it for a PC platform version. They aren't even announced a thought about red dead 2. So no sir. RDR2 will NOT be out this year

You are all working on assumptions. And there is a first for everything.

What's your point. Are you saying he's not dead and will be in RDR 2 or are you saying let's pretend he's not dead to avoid spoilers. You cannot have both. The only way John Marsten can be in RDR 2 is if they make it a zombie game with him raised from the dead. All the people reading this will have already played it and be looking for info on the RDR 2 so forget spoilers. He's dead. He's not in the next one.

In any case, John Marsten was not in the first game Red Dead Revolver, so we will get a completely new character and story for RDR 2, just like in the GTA games.

They cannot announce a GTA5 PC version otherwise that's means there is a PS4 version, and a PS4 version would kill PS3 sales. We will get the game on PC and PS4 ports when the PS3 sales have dried up. Could you not work that out for yourself without me telling you.

The PS3 version is more or less saturated right now, so we are due for the announcement. Any delay may be due to problems getting the XB1 port up to speed. Rockstar will want to release PC, PS4 and XB1 all at the same time within the same promotion window to maximise the hype. But achieving port parity between PS4 and XB1 is impossible because they are too far apart in terms of power. The sooner Rockstar realise that, the sooner they will release the game on PC and next gen.

Announcing a PC version has zero to do with a PS4 version.
They are allowing for a "cooldown" period before they will announce it for all other platforms. But first they want people to stop playing GTA for a while and hunger them out for more and then BOOM they will reveal a GOTY addition which will include all the DLC and be a very nice prospect even for the already PS3 owner. Announcing it too early will have most existing PS3 owners say naah I got it already. Cant believe you could not figure that out for yourself.
Any delay might be for various reasons that you wouldn't know for.

Anyone who has not bought GTA5 on PS3 by now probably wont (except when it goes on sale in 5 years time). Everybody knows they it will come to PC and next gen - no secret.

Everyone thinks RDR2 will be a sequel... John Marston could be a part of RDR2. Imagine if they made the game a PREQUEL!

The story could be about him in his gang life... He talked about it enough in RDR to make us all wonder... Imagine RDR2 being John Marston before his wife and kids, just being the bada** bandit that he is known to be!

Just my two cents. A young John Marston in RDR2 would be pretty cool... Oh, and btw. Nice spoiler alert... Jerk!
