Razer Announces Blade Gaming Laptop

When we recently looked at the Alienware M14x and were impressed with its stealth bomber lines but rather less impressed with its poor graphics performance. Now PC manufacturer Razer has announced an even sleeker gaming laptop it hopes will blow away the competition.

The Razer Blade not only boasts some tasty specs but also features a multi-touch display in the palm rest which turns into a shortcut screen when combined with an external mouse for gaming.

The multi-touch display will act like a touchpad during normal use and will then turn into a shortcut screen during gaming. Ten shortcut keys are displayed above the main screen which will be fully customizable according to Razer, but for major titles like Battlefield 3, they will be automatically configured.

The secondary display will be powered by the SwitchBlade UI, which will also control the 10 LCD shortcut buttons above it.

The Razer Blade is just 22mm in depth and features a 17in screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside your games will be driven by a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 processor combined with an Nvidia GeForce GT 555M with Nvidia Optimus Technology and 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM.

Also included will be a built-in HD webcam, a 320GB HDD, 8GB of RAM and a 60Wh battery. Of course all this gaming goodness will set you back a little bit, or $2,799.99 in the US to be exact. Pricing for other regions has yet to be announced but we’ll let you know as soon as Razer gets back to us.

"To truly co-develop a gaming laptop of this caliber with a company like Razer is quite a remarkable feat,” said Intel's beret-wearing Mooly Eden. “Bringing together our engineering forces and utilizing our fast Intel Core i7 processor, the Razer Blade delivers top-class gaming performance in a very portable form factor."

The Razer Blade will be available in Q4 2011 in the US and hopefully not too much later in other regions.

the official release/demo video of the Blade is hilarious with the M&S style delivery and superlatively superlative superlatives and over-fluffed marketing fluff :-)

Good looking laptop, though. it's refreshing to see a company actually trying to do something useful with the laptop design rather than just cram as many LEDs into it like Alienware.

Great looking machine, and a great idea - but GT555M? A bit underpowered for a 17" gaming laptop costing this much isn't it? I would be wanting 560M minimum and preferably 580M or AMD 6970M.

Their claims that its the worlds first gming laptop should be backed up providing state of the art hardware. Nvidia 555 chipset is no better than you find on most £1500 laptops - most of which are slim enough and portable enough to call themselves gaming laptops along side this. The new Macbook Pro with AMD 6750 gfx card is 6months older than this and prob runs it close. It does look like a nice bit of kit tho.
