Special report: iPad 3 / New iPad : What You Need To Know
Hands on: iPad 3 Review

According to three separate sources who have spoken to Bloomberg, the iPad 3 is set to feature a boosted processor, a better screen and support for the 4G LTE network – which of course won’t be of much use to us here in the UK.

All these rumours come courtesy of “people familiar with the product” who spoke to Bloomberg and have said that Apple’s manufacturing partners in Asia have started ramping up production of the iPad 3 this month in advance of the new tablet going on sale in March.

With full manufacturing volumes being reached by next month, Apple will be hoping to launch the new tablet in March in an attempt to ward off the increased competition from the likes of Samsung and most recently Amazon.

Apple’s new tablet will be powered by a new A6 quad-core processor according to two of the sources, which will mean the iPad will catch up with the latest set of Android tablets featuring the quad-core Tegra 3 processor – such as the Transformer Prime.

Another source said the iPad 3 would be compatible with the long term evolution (LTE) wireless standard though, as we said, since the UK doesn’t have a working 4G network this feature won’t make much difference to those living here.

The final upgrade to the new tablet will be the screen which will have more pixels on it than some high-definition televisions according to one source, with the pixels small enough to make the images look like printed material.

Additional graphic grunt is also expected to accompany the improved processor meaning videos will play almost instantly.

Apple will launch an educational electronic textbook service later this week in New York, but we don’t expect any hardware announcements until late February or indeed early March.
