PS4 Update 2.51 starts rolling out

Sony has released PS4 Update 2.51 today and it’ll start appearing on consoles across the US and Europe any time now.

The latest system software update for PS4 is rolling out today, bringing with it various tweaks and improvements to the previous PS4 firmware build.

PS4 Update 2.51 weighs in at around 245MB, so immediately you’ll realise this isn’t an update that’s going to introduce major new features.

Instead the update is focused on minor fixes, as you can see in the rather brief patch notes:

PS4 Update 2.51 Patch Notes

  • System software stability during use of some features has been improved
  • Operation quality during use of some applications has been improved

There was a particular PS4 bug that some users started experiencing in March that hasn’t been fixed by the patch though. And that’s where a notification explaining Rest Mode would continuously pop up when they turned their PS4 on.

The latest major PS4 update was PS4 Update 2.50, which was released on March 26.

Codenamed Yukimura, Update 2.50 introduced the much requested Suspend/Resume feature for games, which allows you to pick up where you left off mid-game directly from Rest Mode.

Although it arrived a few days after Update 2.50, the PS4 has since gained PlayStation Music powered by Spotify, letting you listen to music while you game.
