Introducing ShareFactory

Sony has announced the PS4 Update 1.70 is rolling out today, brining ShareFactory to the next-generation console.

In line with today’s release, Sony has revealed the full features list for the first major PS4 update, including changes made to the PS Vita and PlayStation app.

“At PlayStation, we love hearing of the great feedback we get from our passionate community of gamers”, said Adam Grant, Senior Product Manager at PlayStation. “That’s why I’m excited to announce that our highly-anticipated system software update for PlayStation 4 (v1.70) will be released today, with a huge number of your demanded features, and expanding upon what we believe is the most socially connected console experience.”

The major new feature coming with the PS4 update is ShareFactory, a free video editing app that lets you customise gameplay videos with special effects, video commentary and soundtracks.

These videos can then be shared via social media or stored on an external USB storage device to save you clogging up the PS4’s 500GB internal hard drive. You can also store any captured gameplay on an external USB drive following the update.

The update will also allow you to start downloading select pre-ordered title from PSN several days ahead of their release dates. This means you’ll be able to start playing as soon as the game becomes available.

The games compatible with the pre-download function show a countdown timer on them so you can easily see how soon you can start downloading the item.

Sony has increased the live broadcast resolution so your PSN pals can watch your gaming antics in 720p HD.

Thankfully, Sony has added DualShock 4 options that let you change the brightness settings of the light bar from Bright and Medium to Dim. You can also navigate the on-screen keyboard using the controller’s touchpad.

In terms of the PlayStation Store, Sony has added the Alternative Payment Methods found on the PS3, meaning you can now pay for content using PayPal.

The PlayStation Vita 3.15 update has made a few changes to remote play by enabling Automatic Device Registration. This automatically detects and pairs the hardware when they’re both online and signed into the same PSN account.

The PlayStation app has also had an update too, offering the option of Push Notifications for select PS4 updates and new Friend Request options.

There’s also now the ability to change your profile picture within the app and it will even let you upload an image from your photo library or take on using your smartphone or tablet.
