The Sony PS4 is to have a “50 per cent raw power advantage” over the upcoming Xbox 720 release, insider sources have suggested.

The latest in a rapidly flowing collection of recent Xbox 720 and PS4 rumours, latest reports have claimed the PS3 follow-on will be significantly more powerful than the heavily rumoured Xbox 720, despite the Microsoft Xbox 360 replacement reportedly playing host to more RAM.

Citing unnamed ‘developer sources’, gaming site VG247 has suggested that the as yet unconfirmed Sony PS4 will have as much as a “50 per cent raw power advantage” over the equally speculative Xbox 720 console, reportedly in the works from Microsoft.

Offering more detailed figures, the newly surfaced insider sources have claimed that whilst the Xbox 720, currently sporting the codename Durango, will feature a run capability of 1.23 teraflops, the Sony PS4, dubbed Orbis, will boast 1.84 teraflops of computing power.

Adding backing to previous Xbox 720 rumours, the latest reports have claimed that Microsoft’s next-generation console will sport 8GB of RAM, with 3GB being reserved for the gamer’s OS, apps and security whilst the remaining 5GB will be available to games.
