PS4 specs to see touchpanel controller introduced

Ahead of the imminent PS4 release date announcement, new PS4 rumours have suggested that the PS4 specs sheet will be bolstered by a new touchscreen toting controller.

With Sony last week teasing that the Sony PS4 release date will be formally unveiled at a New York based PlayStation event on February 20, latest PS4 rumours have tipped the next-gen console to go down the Nintendo Wii U route and land with a display packing controller.

Citing “development sources with working knowledge of both next generation consoles,” gaming magazine Edge has suggested that “PlayStation 4 will be more powerful than the next Xbox, will ship with a redesigned controller and launch by the end of the year in Japan and the US.”

Far from the oversized, tablet-esque controller found on the Wii U, latest reports have claimed that the PS4 controller will resemble the current PS3 controller with a compact, Vita-style touchpad featuring to offer more tactile input options.

“Sources close to the hardware have revealed to us that PS4 will ship with a redesigned controller which is the same size as an existing DualShock but features a small touchpad in place of the existing Select, Start and PS buttons,” the Edge reports have stated. “The tech is based on Vita’s rear touchpad, and is similarly responsive in use.”

Bringing further next-gen features to the PS4 controller, further PS4 rumours have suggested the Xbox 720 rival will boast a ‘Share’ button, offering gamers increase online gaming and community options.

“A new Share button on the controller will, when pressed, launch a new feature that will allow screenshots and video to be distributed online,” the reports added. “The PS4 hardware will continually record the most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action (with no processing penalty, claims our source), which users will then be able to edit and broadcast via the Internet.”

Whilst Sony is tipped to unveil the eagerly awaited PS4 release date during its February 20 PlayStation event, it has been suggested that a European PS4 release date could be delayed until early 2014, with Sony facing “complexities in European distribution” that would see the console hit the UK months after its US and Japan launch.
