Sony has announced global PS4 sales have topped 7 million since it launched in November, just as the new update 1.70 is detailed.
As of April 6, actual PS4 sales figures saw over 7 million consumer purchases of Sony’s next generation console.
We haven’t heard any official global Xbox One sales figures since January when Microsoft announced global sales had reached 3 million, which now pales in comparison to Sony’s latest impressive announcement.
Sony also revealed that PS4 software sales have topped 20.5 million from cumulated digital and physical sales worldwide as of April 13.
PS4 owners can apparently expect to get access to a 120 game strong portfolio by the end of 2014.
“The response from the global gaming community for PS4 has been overwhelming and we are truly humbled that gamers are selecting PS4 as their next generation console of choice,” said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment. “The PS4 journey has just begun, and although we are still facing difficulties keeping up with the strong demand worldwide, we remain steadfast in our commitment to meet the need of our customers, and surpassing the wildest expectations of gamers by delivering new user experiences that inspire and engage.”
On another note, Sony has detailed the upcoming features to be made available with the PS4 Update 1.70 that is “coming soon”.
This major system update will bring SHAREfactory, the new video editor app for the PS4 that will let you customise your gameplay videos before you share them.
You can utilise special effects, filters, themes, transitions and other personalisation options as well as add video commentary. If you’ve got the PlayStation camera you can even do picture-in-picture commentary and put yourself in your videos.
The sharing options have also been enhanced. You will soon be able to export your videos to an external USB hard drive.
Following the PS4 Update 1.70, you will be able to toggle a new auto-download feature that lets you pre-download selected pre-order titles several days before they are released. This means you’ll be able to start gaming as soon as the game is launched.
“We’ve got a lot more coming in PS4 system software update v1.70 and beyond. The PS4 experience will constantly evolve, and new innovative ideas can come from anyway to ensure the platform continues to deliver the best in gaming and entertainment every time you turn it on,” added Sony.
