PS4 pre-orders top 1 million units ahead of November 29 release date

With the PS4 release date now confirmed for November 29 in the UK, Sony has confirmed that PS4 pre-orders have already topped 1 million units.

Making the announcement during its Gamescom 2013 press conference, the PS4 pre-orders milestone has been confirmed just days after the company revealed newly placed advanced orders would not be guaranteed to arrive in time for launch.

Speaking during the conference, Andrew House, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment stated: “You made it clear that you are excited about this platform with more than 1 million pre-orders worldwide.”

Earlier this month a number of retailers ceased taking PS4 pre-orders after reportedly getting word from Sony that launch day stocks would be limited.

“Please note that Sony have confirmed all PlayStation 4 pre-orders placed from August 6 will now not be guaranteed for launch,” retailer ShopTo stated on its PS4 pre-order pages recently. “You can still pre-order PS4 with us in case we receive cancellations and can fulfil your order for launch.”

Amazon issued a warning of its own stating: “Please note – due to high demand, orders placed for the PlayStation 4 console from August 6 may be received after release date. We will ship orders as soon as we receive sufficient inventory.”

Despite this cautionary warnings, last week Sony exclusively revealed to TrustedReviews that eager gamers might still stand a chance of getting their PS4 console in time for launch.

“It’s not to say that if you pre-order it now you won’t get it on day one, it’s just a precautionary guarantee,” an official Sony spokesperson told us. They added: “It has been a difficult message to get across.”
