PS4 pre-orders kick off despite lack of pricing details

Following last night’s formal PS4 unveiling, a number of UK retailers have started taking PS4 pre-orders, despite the consoles release date and price having yet to be confirmed.

With the long awaited PS4 entering the realms of reality at Sony’s recent New York based launch event, the Japanese manufacturer has revealed that the console will play host to a raft of new features, components and gameplay functionality, whilst details on a PS4 price tag are still sparse.

Although the company has confirmed that the PS4 release date will be held in line with the 2013 holiday season, a precise date of arrival has yet to be announced. Despite this, a selection of gaming outlets have already started taking PS4 pre-orders, pairing the newly unveiled console with a selection of speculative deals.

Offering gamers the chance to “get in line for the PlayStation 4 here,” UK retailers GAME has started taking deposit based PS4 pre-orders, with eager consumers able to drop £20 for the chance to eventually snap up Sony’s next-generation console.

“Place your deposit and be part of the Future of PlayStation by reserving the PlayStation 4,” a posting on the official GAME website has stated whilst offering details on the few PS4 features that have already been announced.

“The PS4 is looking like a truly revolutionary console,” Martyn Gibbs, GAME’s CEO said. “Sony has raised the bar for how we will experience and access games and how gamers will control their experiences. The new features will give developers a whole new way to create incredible games, so we look forward to bringing the PS4 to the gaming communities of the UK.”

He added: Many console launches have seen demand significantly outstrip supply so we would urge anyone wishing to get their hands on a PS4 from launch to register their interest with our store teams or online as soon as possible.”

With Sony having yet to offer any indication as to what the PS4 might look like, further retailers are allowing avid gamers to register interest in the like Xbox 720 rival with notifications to be sent out when further PS4 pre-order details are available.

Set to land with AMD based architecture, Sony has confirmed that the PS4 specs sheet will see 8GB of RAM paired with an x86 CPU and a powerful GPU offering.

More than a hardware bump, the PS4 will introduce a selection of new social and portable gaming options, with the console to be paired with the new DualShock 4 PS4 controller. Set to boast a touchpad interface on the device’s fore, the DualShock 4 controller will also play host to a new ‘Share’ button, allowing users to instantly upload 10-second in-game clips at will.

Have you already made use of the early PS4 pre-order offerings doing the rounds or are you happy to wait until more details are available on the next-gen console? Let us know via the TrustedReviews Twitter and Facebook feeds or through the comment boxes below.
