PS4 getting its own Preview Programme for firmware updates

Sony is launching its own PS4 Preview programme to allow gamers to get early access to firmware updates.

You’ll soon be able to get early preview access to PS4 firmware updates thanks to an inbound Preview programme.

Sony is running a beta programme that will let you test the functionality of the PS4’s next major system software update.

Unlike Microsoft’s rather more exclusive Xbox Preview programme, you can sign up for the PS4 Preview programme right now via this website.

This is where you can register your interest in the beta programme, but it seems like it’s not a 100 per cent guarantee that you’ll be accepted onto the Preview programme.

What you need to sign up though is a PS4, an internet connection and a master PSN account – sub-accounts just won’t cut it.

Beta testers will be able to roll back to the previous PS4 system software update at any time (currently v2.57) at any time they require.

The beta programme will start on September 2.

Sony has yet to announce the features that are inbound with the next major PS4 update, but some of them have already leaked online.

Various reports suggest that the PS4 will get YouTube broadcasting among other features with the next PS4 firmware update.

It’s also tipped that the PS4 will add Events, Communities and a new layout for the message screen.

Communities is allegedly a new feature that lets you find players that have “similar tastes and interests”. You’ll also apparently be able to play games, join parties or talk about shared interests with people in the community.

We’ll keep you posted as and when we get any official information on the PS4 Preview programme or the upcoming firmware update.
