PS4 error CE-34878-0 corrupts save files, makes some games unplayable

A huge number of PS4 owners are reporting an error that is corrupting save files and even renders some games completely unplayable.

There were bound to be a few teething problems with the PS4 for early adopters, but it seems there’s quite a serious bug in the console that is corrupting the save files of the game currently being played.

Currently, a 36-page long and growing thread on the PlayStation Forum has obtained a huge number of user complaints about the rather worrying Error CE-34878-0 that keeps appearing on screen.

In some cases users report the error prevents them from starting any other PS4 app whatsoever.

What’s pretty worrying is that it isn’t exclusive to a single title, or even developer. It seems to be happening to titles across the board, with gamers reporting error code issues with Killzone 4: Shadow Fall, Need for Speed: Rivals, NBA 2K14, FIFA 14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and even simply trying to play Blu-ray discs.

Gamers have reported that some games have been rendered completely unplayable after flashing up the Error CE-34878-0 blue screen, even after deleting and re-installing game data.

Some have resolved the issue by disconnecting from the internet, while others have discovered signing in as a guest has stopped the error code appearing. However, neither of these are really acceptable solutions for the issue, to which Sony has yet to respond.

The PlayStation Forum users have tried to contact Sony’s Customer Support service, but it seems they have little or no knowledge of the error code and have no way to fix or advise the new PS4 owners.

By the looks of things, Sony has even replaced some consoles showing the Error CE-34878-0 code, but even the new consoles are experiencing the same issues.

The error code thread dates back to the beginning of December, but Sony has still to respond to the users’ issues.

We’ve received the official statement from Sony at this time:

“We are aware of the cases and we appreciate your patience while we investigate.”

They will update us with more information as it arrives.
