PS4 DualShock 4 controllers launching in blue and red

Sony has announced that it will be launching Magma Red and Wave Blue versions of its DualShock 4 controller for the PS4.

Launching the same day as the PS4, the red and blue editions of the new DualShock 4 will be available to purchase separately.

The Magma Red and Wave Blue DualShock 4 controllers are priced at £54 and will be available from the PS4 release date on November 29 in Europe.

PS4 gamers may appreciate the new colourful DualShock 4 controllers and their two-toned look, but we’re sure they’ll be more excited about the new features included within the PS4 controller.

The DualShock 4 includes enhanced rumble capabilities and a new Share button that will allow PS4 gamers to boast their gaming prowess on social media networks and PSN.

In the centre of the DualShock 4 is the new touchpad, which is very similar to that included in the rear of the PS Vita. It is capable of recognising multi-touch gestures and is bound to open up a whole new level of gameplay when we see what developers have done with it.

Also pretty noticeable on the DualShock 4 is the dominant lightbar at the front of the controller. The PlayStation Camera is capable of using this lightbar to track the position of the gamer in the room, to identify that gamer and who’s holding each controller.

“If the system sees that for some reason we’ve swapped places or I’ve passed the controller to someone, it can automatically adjust the ordering of the split-screen so it makes sense to everyone,” explained Anton Mikhailov, Senior Software Engineer of the R&D Group for Sony.

There’s also speakers in-built on the controller, which adds dynamic sound to the PS4 gameplay. We can imagine it freaking us out a bit first, especially in an FPS when you can hear the bullets whizzing past your ears in the palm of your hand.
