Ahead of next week’s expected PS4 unveiling, latest leaks have once again suggested that the PS4 controller will play host to a touchpanel interface on the front.

The latest in a series of PS4 rumours to point towards the inclusion of a small, touch-sensitive panel on the controller’s fore, new leaks have claimed Sony will formally unveil its eagerly awaited next-generation console on February 20 alongside a revised controller.

Citing unnamed sources, gaming outlet VG247 has suggested that the PS4 controller will be “more or less” the same size and shape as the current, PS3 compatible, DualShock controller with the new touch pad to replace the current Start and Select buttons to offer additional input options.

As well as adding backing to previous reports of a touch pad toting revision, the latest leaks have suggested that “the L2 and R2 buttons have been remodelled for the better.”

With Sony recently confirming that it will host a New York based PlayStation event on February 20, an event that is widely expected to see the PS4 release date officially unveil, PlayStation 4 rumours have kicked into overdrive in recent weeks, hinting a wide range of features the next-gen console is likely to add to its arsenal.

Far from the first time the PS4 controller has been tipped to be on the receiving end of a design overhaul, reports of a touchpanel introduction first circulated earlier this month.

“Sources close to the hardware have revealed to us that PS4 will ship with a redesigned controller which is the same size as an existing DualShock but features a small touchpad in place of the existing Select, Start and PS buttons,” gaming magazine Edge stated. “The tech is based on Vita’s rear touchpad, and is similarly responsive in use.”

Further PS4 rumours have suggested that the expected Xbox 720 rival will land with a Kinect rivalling “dual camera” in tow.

““Dual Camera” appears to be an evolutioned HD Eyetoy instead of a Kinect device, based on the features offered right now,” recent reports have claimed.
