PS4 “better resolution” cited as reason for purchase in the US

A new study reveals the PS4’s “better resolution” edges out as the top reason for buying Sony’s latest console in the US.

Owners of the latest generation consoles have very different reasons for buying the PS4, Xbox One or Wii U.

The enlightening information comes via a new study from Nielsen in the US.

For PS4 buyers the most important factor was the fact the console offers a “better resolution” than its competitors.

This was followed by the fact the PS4 is a Blu-ray player and the titles it offers in its game library. The fourth and fifth most important factors were the PS4’s “faster processing power” and that it is “what the family wants”.

As for the Xbox One, the Microsoft and Xbox brand is the biggest selling appeal, followed by the allure of “innovative features”.

“Faster processing power” is the third buyer’s thought for the Xbox One, with the exclusive games and content at the fourth most important consideration.

Finally, the “fun-factor” of the Xbox One is another top reason to buy Microsoft’s latest console.

In comparison, the Wii U owners cited fun-factor, child-friendliness and price/value as the top reasons for buying the latest Nintendo console.

Backwards compatibility of the Wii U and the exclusive games and content were also top reasons for buying a Wii U.

Neilsen’s study also broke down the prior console use among Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U owners in the US. 86 per cent of Wii U owners owned the original Wii, while 43 per cent of Xbox One owners owned a PS3 and 59 per cent of PS4 owners had an Xbox 360 previously.
