The Prototype Biohazard bundle is plagued by constant frame rate issues after an underwhelming surprise release. And it doesn't even look that great.
Last week Activision released a surprise bundle containing Prototype 1 and 2 titled the “Biohazard Bundle” for Xbox One and PS4.
The compilation is said to bring an improved framerate, resolution and textures to both games, but from what we’ve seen so far this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Digital Foundry have analysed the Xbox One versions of each title and has found them to be a huge disappointment. In some cases they performed even worse than the PS3 releases from several years ago.
The original Prototype runs at 30 frames per second on Xbox One, with the occasionally dip into the 20s during intensive gameplay sections and cutscenes. Whilst it does run at 1080p, no noticeable changes have been made to any of the textures.
The reasoning behind the unchanged framerate is puzzling, as there is no reason why the bundle cannot handle 60fps, especially on superior hardware and with no obvious visual upgrades.

Prototype 2 fares much worse than its predecessor, Digital Foundry believes it is “among the worst performing games on Xbox One to date,” with a constant stutter during cutscenes and a framerate of 20-25 fps when exploring the city.
Other issues include frequent screen tearing and a framerate that struggles to keep up with the PS3 and 360 versions of the same game. Draw distance and texture quality has seen no improvement either, bringing into question why this remaster was released at all.
The PS4 version may handle things a little better, but this is yet to be confirmed.
It is no surprise that this remaster was slipped out so quietly, considering the dire quality of the release. If Activision is testing the waters for a new Prototype title, they are doing a bad job of it.
The Prototype Biohazard Bundle is currently available for £39.99 on Xbox One and PS4, though Activision plans to make each title available on their own starting August 11.
