With a 128MB memory key, the Swiss Army Knife now really does include everything you need.
Whoever came up with the idea of adding a USB memory key to the Swiss Army Knife ought to be given a medal. That simple addition dragged the famous all purpose utility, firmly into the 21st century.
However, the original release of the Swissmemory in March this year, was still a little behind the times, due to its limited 64MB of memory. Now the Swissmemory, a collaboration between memory specialists Swissbit, and Victorinox, the manufacturers of the original Swiss Army Knife, has been updated to a 128MB version, making it a more tempting proposition.
As with the original there are two versions of the product. One features numerous tools such as a stainless steel knife, file and screwdriver, while the other omits these enabling it to be legally carried onto planes. Both however, feature a pressurised pen and a red LED laserpointer.
The USB key is compatible with Windows, MacOS and Linux. Windows 98/SE and Mac OS 8.6 users however, will require drivers. Security is taken into consideration with the bundled SecureLOCK software enabling the memory key to be secured against unauthorised access.
The 128MB Victorinox Swissmemory will cost around £50 (including VAT) for the laserpointer version and £56 for the fully tooled up variant. However, as you can get a conventional memory key with 256MB for around the same price, you need to really want the novelty of actually having the proverbial Swiss Army Knife in your pocket.
