PQChat lands as secure WhatsApp alternative

A new WhatsApp alternative has entered the mix, with PQChat landing as “the most secure mobile communications app ever.”

Putting security at the fore of the mobile messaging trend, PQChat utilises never-the-same (NTS) encryption methods to ensure your communications – be they in text, image, video or audio form – are secure from unwanted intruders or data mining.

This NTS approach means that the exact same message sent on multiple occasions would be uniquely encrypted each time, making snooping all but impossible.

As well as impressive encryption standards, PQChat, which is free to download on iOS, offers further advanced security options such as timed message deletes, which makes sent communications unreadable within seconds of having been first read.

Utilising the McEliece cryptosystem encryption, which at present has never been broken, PQChat also offers users the option to remotely delete communication’s from recipient’s threads if they later regret sending the message or the data becomes sensitive.

“The ongoing Snowden revelations have brought home just how easily accessible our personal information is to the NSA or other groups, yet most people are still handing over information to data miners, spammers and criminals without understanding what they are doing,” Andersen Cheng, Co-founder and CEO of the company behind PQChat, SRD Wireless said.

He added: “People need to take back control of their data: even the smallest amount of personal information can compromise your privacy and security.

“Modern communication tools simply aren’t built with this as a priority and so make compromises in order to allow communication. Our aim with PQChat is to place end-to-end security at the heart of the application.”

With PQChat not storing users’ passwords so as to further prevent against data breaches, the application lets users authenticate their accounts through voice and video means.

This essentially lets users ensure they are dealing with the correct person by having a short video clip of the user reading an authentication code display on the contact’s sheet.

PQChat is available to download for iPhone users now, although the app’s makers have assured us that an Android version will launch within one to two months.
