Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 given 24-carat golden makeover

A limited edition 24-carat gold version of the Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 will be launching in June, BlackBerry has revealed.

The exclusive limited edition Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 Gold features a stainless steel case with a gold titanium coating. However, it is finished with a layer of 24-carat gold and the rear is hand-wrapped in leather.

Only 25 of the limited edition Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 Gold and the number of each handset is listed on the camera cover on the rear of the handset. The limited edition number is provided on a plate crafted from a solid block of 24-carat gold.

All Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 Gold handsets also have a special BlackBerry PIN number, starting with “2AA” to mark their exclusivity.

Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 Features
The Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 Gold is based on the Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 launched last year.

Playing host to a 1.2GHz processor, the Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 Gold has 8GB of internal storage and a 16GB microSD card is included, but can support up to 32GB of additional card-based memory.

Featuring Liquid Graphics technology, the Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 Gold has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and 2.8-inch TFT LCD screen with 640 x 480p resolutions and 287ppi image density.

The smartphone also features NFC connectivity, a 1,230mAh battery, full QWERTY keyboard and custom Porsche Design UI.

The Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 Gold will be available from selected Porsche Design stores from June. Surprisingly no pricing details have been given, but seeing as the original Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 cost £1275, consumers can expect an extraordinarily high price tag for the 24-carat gold edition.
