It’s probably no exaggeration to say it will soon be easier to name gadget categories that don’t benefit from Alexa integration.
In 2018 alone, we’ve seen cookers, microwaves, ceiling lights, cars and PCs adopt Amazon’s personal assistant.
Now, Polk has announced the first soundbar to offer Alexa voice controls.
The $299 (around £220) Polk Command Bar, which goes on sale in April, has the equivalent of an Amazon Echo built in; right down to the hardware buttons on top.

It offers the full range of Alexa skills, including the ability to control other smart home and AV devices. Naturally, there’s support for all of the usual music-streaming services.
Polk says its system is the “new heart of the home theatre”, with HDMI and USB slots designed to house and power the Fire TV stick and the Fire TV boxes, including the 4K version.
The company has thought this through pretty well and the soundbar’s remote control even features an Alexa action button that will briefly lower the volume so you don’t have to yell to make your command heard.
It’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-enabled, and even supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 when paired with supported devices.
In terms of the audio tech, there are two 1.25 x 3.25-inch full-range drivers, two 1-inch tweeters and a wireless 6.5-inch subwoofer.
Given the number of Echo devices Amazon has released in the past 12 months, we’re surprised this hasn’t been covered yet. Regardless, the Polk Command Bar promises to be a popular solution.
