Our dreams are coming true, finally a game that will let us live our live out our Pokemon training fantasies!

Nintendo, The Pokemon Company and Niantic have just announced Pokemon GO, an upcoming free-to-play mobile title coming to Android and iOS in 2016.

The game will let you catch, train and battle with Pokemon caught in a real world environment via location information from your mobile device.

Pokemon GO will support in in-app purchases, which isn’t surprising for a free-to-play mobile title.

Players will be able to use an optional device called Pokemon GO Plus to enhance their experience.

This nifty device can be worn on your wrist and used to issue specific, in-game commands.

This could range from catching a Pokemon or using an item, the device will be available to purchase separately when the app launches next year.

Pokemon GO is being developed Niantic, previously known for their augmented reality title Ingress.

The game, much like Pokemon GO, used real life location technology to create a convincing sci-fi story.

Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, had this to say on the announcement:

“Our challenge was to develop a great game for smartphone devices that expressed the core values of Pokémon, Pokémon GO is the answer to that challenge.”

It is exciting to see such a beloved franchise branching out to a more accessible platform in such a unique way, we just hope the microtransactions aren’t too overbearing.

Pokemon GO will release in 2016 for Android and iOS as a free download.
