PodRide is a pedal-powered Noddy car

Nothing beats getting out on your bike in the summer, but in January? When it’s cold and sleeting? No thanks. If you have PodRide, however, you might well change your tune.

It’s a bicycle-car hybrid that could convince us fair weather cyclists to get exercise every day, not just when the sun is shining. It looks like a small car – yes, a bit like a Noddy car, admittedly – with the same seating position and seat height. Despite this, it’s narrow enough to fit on a bike lane, though you might get some odd looks.

The body is waterproof, and the windshield is heated, so you can stay warm in the winter months. The tyres are even studded, helping it grip the road in icy conditions.

It has a boot for your shopping, and a tow bar for a bike trailer. And when the sun comes out, you can whip the roof off and get some rays.

The motor and control system are straight out of an electric bike, so you won’t have to pedal all the time. And it’ll make it street legal in most countries. That also means it won’t do the environment any harm.

The plan is to make the schematics available so anyone can make one for themselves. It’s passed its funding goal and still has two days to go.
