If Apple ever does bring streaming service to its Apple TV set top box, it’s going to have plenty of competition on home turf.
In the US, Sony has released a PlayStation Vue app allowing subscribers to access live channels and on-demand content from Apple’s prized 4th generation hockey puck.
PlayStation Vue joins Dish Network’s own Sling TV solution, enabling the two forefront cord-cutting options to go head-to-head.

Apple TV owners wishing to sign up will still need to do so through the browser, which is Sony’s crafty way of avoiding handing Apple a hefty 30% cut of the subscription fee.
Vue came out of beta earlier this year and has been expanding rapidly since, with availability on browsers, iOS, Android, Android TV and Roku as well as PlayStation consoles.
Subscribers can watch on five devices simultaneously, while the cloud-based DVR makes it possible to record hundreds of hours of content.
“Starting today,” Sony said in a post on the official PlayStation blog, “PlayStation Vue will be supported on Apple TV (4th generation), leveraging Apple TV’s latest hardware to create an innovative experience.
Plans start at $29.99 for 55 channels, all the way to $74.99 for the Ultra package with HBO, Showtime and local content.
The rollout had been smooth sailing for Sony until last week’s announcement packages would no longer be including content from Viacom networks like MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon.
