PlayStation Vue is coming to Android next week, Roku from today

Sony’s PlayStation Vue TV service, aimed at weaning cord-cutters off their cable subscription, is coming to Android smartphones and tablets.

The contract-free streaming service will launch on the Google-based devices running Android KitKat or above from next week.

Naturally, the app will support the Google Cast platform, making it possible for users to send their shows to the best screen in the house using the Chromecast dongle.

In the announcement, Sony wrote: “Next week, we’ll be launching the PlayStation Vue mobile app for Android, so you can use your existing subscription to access PlayStation Vue on Android smartphones and tablets (with OS v4.4 and higher) through our mobile app.

“It also supports Chromecast and other Google Cast-enabled devices. We’ll provide more information on the launch date for Android soon, so stay tuned.”

Also on Tuesday, Sony announced support for the Roku range of TV sticks and set-top boxes arrives today. It joins the Amazon Fire TV and Fire Stick, iOS devices and the PlayStation 3 and 4 consoles.

PlayStation Vue, which starts at just $29.99, came out of beta earlier this year, but is still only available in the United States.
