Sony has officially cut the price of the PlayStation TV to £45 down from the original £84.99.
Under six months after the PS TV launch in the UK, Sony has officially cut the price of the set-top box.
You can now pick up the PS TV for just £44.99 in the UK, down £40 from its original £84.99 RRP when it launched in November 2014.
“Starting from 27th March, PS TV will offer even greater value for money when it becomes available for only £44.99”, said Sony in a statement. “Now with an even more accessible price, you can benefit from the advanced features and technology that PS TV brings to your home entertainment experience.”
“By bringing new innovation into the home, you can have the freedom to play whenever and in which room you wish. PS TV has never been more accessible, and there has truly never been a better time to expand your PlayStation experience.”
The PS TV lets you use Remote Play to stream PS4 games from your console to your PS TV over a home Wi-Fi network. The idea is that you can play PS4 on another screen in the house if your living room is taken.
You can also play select PS Vita titles on the PS TV, but only those that don’t require the use of the Vita’s touchscreen or touch pad.
You’ll need a DualShock 3 or DualShock 4 controller to actually use it though, and you can forget about getting one bundled in for that £45 price point.
When we reviewed the PS TV we found it to be a very disappointing product:
“We are not really sure who the PS TV is meant to be for. It's not a fully fledged streaming set top box to rival Apple TV or Kindle Fire TV and the Remote Play is not really up to scratch. If you own a PS Vita, the Remote Play experience is more reliable on Sony's handheld and looks much better on a smaller screen. Even if you own a PS4 and want to have this set up in another room, how much of hassle is it really to move your console to another room these days?”
